I worked on social media communication and visual design for Mindtree.Org's I Got Garbage initiative, including material for the UNDP Prithvi plastic-recycling project. The purpose was to explain the work while keeping the people who collect and sort waste at the centre of the story. I wanted to communicate waste pickers as skilled participants in the circular economy, with the wider programme aiming to support their financial independence and growth as entrepreneurs. The artwork uses strong illustrations and limited text to explain what happens to waste and how the collection and recycling system works. I developed process diagrams, an isometric recycling-facility scene and portraits for the People of a Circular Economy series. The resulting graphics formed a set of communication materials for the project, created with Illustrator and Photoshop.

Outcome

I Got Garbage worked with waste-picker enterprises around solid-waste collection and recycling. Within that larger initiative, the Prithvi project focused on plastic waste. The communication needed to explain both the environmental purpose and the livelihoods of the people doing the work. For me, humanising waste pickers was central to that brief. It meant making their role visible within the system, rather than describing recycling only through discarded materials and machinery. The wider goal was financial empowerment and entrepreneurship; my contribution was to help communicate that idea clearly. I worked on the social media strategy and visual design alongside the consulting team at Mindtree.
