I worked with TECA, BFA Global's climate venture builder, to design and build a portfolio explorer for its African climate startups. The goal was to give investors and other market participants a place to find relevant companies, understand their work and decide who they wanted to speak to. I handled the product from the initial brief and information architecture through to the interface, database and live website. Working closely with the internal operations team, I built a spreadsheet-to-database workflow and a controlled way to share sensitive company financials. The visual system took inspiration from SnowUI, with different portfolio views and light and dark modes developed together. The first version was delivered over roughly three to four months and hosted on Vercel.

TECA had information about its portfolio companies, but wanted to turn that information into an experience people could explore themselves. Investors needed to understand which startups matched their interests, while the team needed a practical way to maintain company profiles and showcase their story, impact and financial information. I began by asking the TECA team what the product should achieve, who would use it, what they would look for and which data points each company profile needed. There was also a balance to work out between public information and private financial data. Browsing the portfolio needed to be straightforward, while detailed financials had to be shared only with approved individuals, given access by the TECA team. Access requests could also help the team understand which companies an investor was interested in and support a later conversation.
